BIRTH OF MYRiiE

10.3.26
Long time no write. It’s been a busy summer!

Been working, eating well, and trying to stay sane with the changing seasons. Besides the regular news, something exciting from this period of time has been the debut of MYRiiE Studios. Lucy Ruppert (dear friend, partner-in-crime, co-creator, etc.) and I have been developing the foundation of this studio in the background for the past couple of months.

Our goals have always been to:
- Build unique work for unique people (unique experiences deserve unique expressions, after all).
- Create opportunties that serve not only ourselves, but for the communities we collaborate with.
- Have fun while learning and growing together.

It has been one of the most challenging and rewarding endeavors I’ve taken on, but I’m ready for a long ride.
We hope you keep a close eye on MYRiiE— We’re always up to no good.

SKULLS RULE MY MIND

7.10.26

It’s no surprise that I really like skulls, especially the cute ones. I’d get a tattoo of one (probably).

In so many ways they are appealing: it’s spiritual, historical, resonant, and can be used in almost every context.
There is a reason that it is one of the most universal symbols in this world.

Here are my most recent skull creations.

THE WORLD IS YOUR CANVAS

6.28.26

I mainly work in the digital landscape, but there was a time where I only created with physical mediums.
Before design, it was always traditional doodling for me.

Moving to digital was natural (with the progression of the world/culture/trends, interests and ideas evolving, following career prospects, etc.); But interestingly enough, the current world has had a shift. There is new collective obsession with creating and owning in the physical. Even though traditional creating is outside my regular habits, I have started feeling the obsession too.

This newfound urge comes with one important understanding: With anything you make, even if it is not something you are used to, an act that is not world changing, something not meant to be profitable— if it is something that at least speaks to you, it's probably worth scratching that itch. Maybe it will resonate with others too. As David Choe says “I don’t know why I did that, but I know I had to do it… That’s called intuition, right?” The conclusion is to use your free will and listen to your own voice. Draw all over anything you can get your hands on. Owning your ideas is cool. Customizing your world is cool.   :^)

PRINT("HELLO, WORLD!")

6.26.26

I stopped using social media to start a blog. Sort of...

Right before graduating college, I decided to go on a detox from most of my digital accounts. I wanted to have some mental clarity, but social media is one of those things that can fog the brain. Thankfully, it is also something that I feel like I have (some) decision and control over, hence why I am now logged out (although I will most likely return to all my social accounts one day... it feels inevitable, but who knows).

I do still fit into the box of digitally addicted Gen Z— but one way I have been combating this urge is by reading through the pile of unread books I have had lying around since who knows when. "This Is Not a T-Shirt" by Bobby Kim (co-creator and designer of The Hundreds) was one of the first books I finished from the pile, and has arguably become one of the most transformative reads. Bobby talks about his days as a young creative living through moments of uncertainty and choosing to blog his heart out to the unknown, just because he had the freedom to do so. I decided to do the same.

My portfolio has been one of the only digital spaces that I have been actively working in since my detox started; I like the idea of channeling and sharing my personal voice alongside my professional work. But overall, there really is no set rhyme or rhythem to this creative outlet. It is purely to embrace something new. Maybe these words will entertain you. If not, at least I know it will entertain me. I still hope we can enjoy this ride together.
